Below, enjoy our spotlight on Client Support Coordinator, Aurora Zhong.
What’s one thing you wish more people knew about the Chinese language and/or culture?
I wish more people knew how beautiful the Chinese language truly is. It has the beauty of form, the elegance of sound, and a deep sense of poetry. With remarkably concise expressions, it can convey the most delicate emotions. For example, instead of simply saying “I miss you,” we could say: 玲珑骰子安红豆,入骨相思知不知。
How has your background influenced your work at DLS?
Coming from a different cultural and linguistic background has given me a deeper appreciation for the challenges and rewards of learning a new language. It helps me approach my work with greater patience, empathy, and cultural awareness. At DLS, where people come from many different countries, I truly value the diversity of perspectives and experiences. It inspires me to help create a more inclusive and supportive environment, and to bridge cultural gaps through language and communication.
What’s a word or phrase in Chinese that you think everyone should know?
One phrase I think everyone should know is “缘分” (yuán fèn). It refers to a kind of connection or fate that brings people together. It reflects the idea that meeting someone or forming a relationship is not entirely by chance—it’s something meaningful and, in a way, destined.
How do you stay connected to your culture while living abroad?
I stay connected to my culture by keeping up with news and social media from China. Also, I enjoy watching Chinese TV dramas, which helps me stay immersed in the language and culture. I keep in close touch with my friends back home, and at DLS, I’ve also made many great friends. We often spend time together talking and sharing our experiences, which makes me feel connected both to home and to my community here.
How do you recharge outside work?
I really enjoy outdoor activities. When the weather is nice, I like to go hiking or play golf with my husband on weekends. I also love spending time with friends- whether it’s shopping, exploring new restaurants, or just relaxing together. These moments help me recharge and bring balance to my life.
