On Saturday, August 22, 2026, 233 runners and walkers gathered at Bon Air Park & Rose Gardens in Arlington, Virginia, for the 3rd Annual DLS 5k & 1-Mile for Lewy Body Dementia. Together, the DLS community raised over $15,000 for the Lewy Body Dementia Association (LBDA). It was our biggest year yet, in both participation and funds raised!
Our Largest Turnout to Date
This year’s race drew our largest field since the event began, with 233 participants taking part in the 5k, the 1-mile, and the children’s dash. Runners, walkers, families, and volunteers came together on a summer morning along the flat, out-and-back course on the W&OD Trail, no pace required, and everyone welcome.
A Community Effort On and Off the Course
The race was only part of the story. In the days beforehand, DLS staff held a bake sale that filled our Arlington office with homemade treats drawn from the many cultures and cuisines we work in every day: Japanese onigiri, matcha bars, fresh berry tarts, and savory tomato and goat cheese tarts, among much more. The bake sale, together with race registrations and donations, pushed our combined total past $15,000, a testament to the generosity and talent of the DLS community.
Why We Run for the Lewy Body Dementia Association
Lewy body dementia is a progressive brain disorder and the second most common type of dementia after Alzheimer’s disease, yet it remains widely underrecognized. The funds raised support the Lewy Body Dementia Association’s work in research, education, and support for the families affected by the disease.
Thank You
To every runner, walker, volunteer, baker, and donor who made this year’s event our best yet: thank you. Your support makes a real difference for families facing Lewy body dementia, and we’re already looking forward to next year.
