DLS Philanthropy Model: Our Plan for 2017

At DLS, we value the idea of giving back to our communities. Every year, we strive to put together events that benefit the DC Metro Area, whether it’s through volunteering our time, donating money to various charities, or participating in community events.

In 2016, DLS employees were able to collect and dispose of litter along a 2-mile section of Rt. 50 for Adopt-a-Highway. Over Mother’s Day weekend, DLS sponsored several employees to participate in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in Washington, D. C. As a company, we were able to raise over $1,480 for this charity. Additionally, we at DLS began participating in the annual National Multiple Sclerosis Society Bike Ride last year to raise money (and awareness) to prevent this debilitating disease. Together, we raised over $1,200 in donations. Finally, in December 2016, DLS chose to donate money to Fisher House, an esteemed charity association devoted to helping veterans and their families find housing.

Although DLS has been an active participant in volunteering for charitable organizations for several years, we developed our official Philanthropy Model which outlines our plan of action for 2017. In addition to continuing our efforts through Adopt-a-Highway and Race for the Cure, we plan to fill the coming months with events like Walk MS, a Soup and Bread Sale, as well as Bake Sales. Our list of approved volunteering opportunities includes organizations such as Martha’s Table: Education Programs & Daycare, as well as Martha’s Table: Healthy Eating Program, DC Central Kitchen, Literacy Council of Northern Virginia, CARECEN Latino Resource and Justice Center, and many more. Each employee will be encouraged to donate 1% of his or her work time (20 hours per year) to charity.
