About DLS
After nearly 25 years of operation, Diplomatic Language Services is one of the largest and most respected private language service providers in the Washington, D.C. area, having supplied close to 2 million class hours of language and cultural training to date. More than 200 language professionals currently support our range of training, testing, translation, interpretation, and curriculum development services.
DLS offers a complete spectrum of training, testing, translation, and interpretation services both to private sector clients and to agencies of the US federal government. Our private sector clients have included AES Corporation, CASA Aircraft, Exxon Mobil, and the New York Times.
Our language training services include highly-customized, industry-specific tutorial and group instruction in more than 85 languages and dialects. DLS also offers extensive proficiency testing support to many U.S. Government agencies, providing assessments based on the Federal Interagency Language Roundtable (ILR) level guidelines.
At DLS, we tailor language training programs to best suit your objectives and scheduling requirements. These include, but are not limited to:
♦ Initial language acquisition training, designed for individuals with no measurable proficiency in the target language
♦ Refresher language training, designed to return the student to previous levels of proficiency
♦ Maintenance/Sustainment language training, designed to strengthen overall language abilities and prevent skill deterioration
♦ Enhancement language training, designed to improve existing foreign language skills to a target level
♦ Custom-designed courses for listening and reading comprehension, transcription, familiarization and survival, as well as special job-related courses.
♦ Mobile Training and Testing Teams, which can be deployed to any location in the U.S. on short notice to provide familiarization programs, enhancement training, or language skills testing
DLS specializes in customized tutorial training and provides highly specialized programs for individuals and also for small private groups. Smaller groups tend to progress more quickly and will develop higher levels of fluency. Our courses offer a distinct advantage, as we design them specifically around your objectives, accounting for such factors as previous exposure or training in the language, desired pace, preferred style of learning, and scheduling considerations. We have found that for most students, tutorial training presents the most effective method for developing “real world,” professional-level skills in the target language.
Location
DLS offers classes in Arlington, Virginia, on six floors of a 12-story building that overlooks the Potomac River, Georgetown, and northwest Washington, D.C. We are located only 1/2 block from the Rosslyn Metro. Language classes and services are also available off-site.
